Marianne Stokes was born in 1855 as Marianne Preindlsberger in Graz and died in 1927 in London. Married to the English landscape painter (and Royal Academy of Arts member) Adrian Scott Stokes, she did not only focus on landscape painting but also on medieval, religious and mythic themes. Her work can be found at the Tate Gallery in London and in public collections in Pittsburgh, Manchester and Wolverhampton.
